How do Gazans predict 2022

With the end of the first quarter of 2022, the residents of Gaza are not optimistic about the improvement of the situation there. Since the beginning of the siege sixteen years ago, the situation is still in constant deterioration, in addition to the repeated wars waged by the Israeli occupation forces on the Gaza Strip.

In a recent study conducted by the Atlas Center for Public Opinion Studies, (33.7%) of the public believed that the situation would remain the same, while (21.9%) believed that it would get worse, while (25.9%) believed that it would improve.

These results are in line with the opinions and expectations of academics, experts, and human rights defenders, about the repercussions of the events of 2021 and what awaits Gaza in 2022, which reflected an approach to the term “no war and no peace”, as they saw that Israel and other parties want the Gazans “no life and no death”, through formal facilities that keep them alive. It prevents explosion.

Estimates of the “People’s Committee to Confront the Siege” (a non-governmental body) indicate that 80% of the population lives below the poverty line, and about 65% of young people suffer from unemployment, as a result of Israeli restrictions and the repercussions of the Corona pandemic.
